Some weekends leave you feeling rushed, even when they are beautiful. The Newport Hidden Gems Escape was created to feel different—thoughtful, welcoming, and full of the kind of moments that stay with you long after you return home.
What Was the Newport Hidden Gems Escape?

The Newport Hidden Gems Escape was designed to offer something more meaningful than a standard weekend away. Rather than filling every hour, the goal was to create a coastal experience that felt balanced and memorable, with space for beautiful meals, local favorites, wellness, creativity, and genuine connection.
Newport was the perfect setting for that kind of weekend. It has history, charm, water views, walkable streets, and so many places that feel special without needing to be overhyped. For this first Hidden Gems Escape, the focus was on offering an elevated weekend at an affordable price—polished yet relaxed, with the chance to enjoy Newport at a gentler pace.
This was never meant to be about doing the most. It was about choosing well. It was about creating a weekend where guests could settle in, feel cared for, enjoy beautiful surroundings, and return home feeling restored rather than depleted. That intention shaped every part of the itinerary, from the hotel and dining choices to the wellness elements and creative local stops.
What made the weekend especially meaningful was the group itself. There was so much warmth, openness, and ease throughout the escape, and that energy carried through each part of the experience. It felt like the kind of weekend that gave people room to connect not only with the destination, but with one another and with themselves.
Why Was Newport Marriott the Perfect Home Base?
Where you stay shapes the rhythm of a trip, and the Newport Marriott was exactly the right home base for this escape. It offered comfort, convenience, and an ideal location that helped the whole weekend feel seamless from start to finish.
One of the best parts of staying at the Newport Marriott was how easy it made everything. Guests were within walking distance of so much of what gave the weekend its charm, from harbor views and local shops to dining and downtown strolls. That walkability added so much to the overall feeling of the escape. It allowed the weekend to feel softer and more relaxed, without the need to constantly coordinate transportation or rush from place to place.
The property itself also supported the tone of the weekend beautifully. It felt comfortable and welcoming, with the kind of ease guests appreciate after a full day out. There is something to be said for returning to a hotel that feels dependable, well-located, and genuinely pleasant to settle into. That matters, especially when part of the goal is helping people slow down.
For a weekend built around meaningful travel, the Newport Marriott gave us a strong foundation. It made the logistics easier, elevated the guest experience, and gave everyone a beautiful and central place to return to between each part of the itinerary.
How Did Stoneacre Brasserie Set the Tone for the Weekend?
The welcome dinner at Stoneacre Brasserie was one of those moments that immediately shaped the mood of the weekend. It felt warm, festive, and beautifully done—exactly what you hope for on a first evening when guests are arriving, settling in, and beginning to connect.

Stoneacre Brasserie set the tone for the weekend with an exceptional prix fixe meal that was one of the true highlights of the evening. The menu felt beautifully curated, with each course adding to a dining experience that was both elevated and deeply enjoyable. Alongside the meal, guests were treated to a festive assortment of bubbly beverages, including mocktails, cocktails, and sparkling water, with still water available for those who preferred it.
That first dinner mattered for more than the food, though the food absolutely stood on its own. It created the kind of setting where people could exhale, settle into conversation, and begin to feel part of the weekend. There is something special about that first shared meal. It shifts the energy from arrival into presence. It tells guests, without needing to say it outright, that they are here now and that this time has been thoughtfully prepared for them.
It felt celebratory, welcoming, and genuinely fun, which was exactly the point—made even more special by the addition of the Pearl Indulgence gifts. Watching guests select their pearls and reveal their extra indulgences was such a fun part of the evening, especially knowing that some of those thoughtful offerings were generously donated by partners like Thames Glass and Diane Novo Photography.
That piece of the evening added surprise and personality in such a lovely way. It made the welcome dinner feel even more interactive and memorable, and it reflected the heart behind the weekend itself: thoughtful touches, local partnership, and a sense of care in the details.
What Made the Pearl Indulgence Gifts So Special?
The Pearl Indulgence element added something playful and personal to the weekend from the very beginning. Guests were invited to select a pearl, each tied to an additional indulgence, and that small moment became such a memorable part of the welcome evening.

There was so much joy in the anticipation of it. Guests chose their pearls, revealed which shade they had received—Champagne, Rose, Blue, or Obsidian—and immediately had something to talk about and enjoy together. It created energy in the room and made the evening feel even more celebratory. What could have simply been a beautiful dinner became something more layered, interactive, and fun.
It also reflected something important about the Hidden Gems Escape as a whole. The weekend was never just about where we went. It was about how each piece was designed to make guests feel welcomed, appreciated, and part of something thoughtful. The Pearl Indulgence gifts supported that beautifully.
The fact that some of the offerings were generously donated by local partners made it even more meaningful. It tied the weekend back to the businesses and people who helped bring it to life and reinforced the community-centered spirit behind the escape.
Why Were The Elms and Carriage House Such a Great Pairing?
Newport is known for its grand homes and historic beauty, and including The Elms in the weekend gave guests a chance to spend time in one of the city’s most iconic places. There is something striking about stepping into a space like that and taking in the architecture, interiors, and sheer sense of scale. It added a completely different layer to the coastal weekend.

What worked especially well was pairing that visit with lunch at Carriage House. After a morning spent in such a visually rich and historic setting, settling in for lunch allowed the day to continue at an easy, elegant pace. It was the perfect reflection of the slower rhythm we embraced throughout the weekend, and that pace only added to the enjoyment.
That combination felt very true to the spirit of the Hidden Gems Escape. It blended a Newport classic with a more grounded and welcoming dining moment, which is often where the best itineraries find their balance. Guests were able to enjoy something iconic without the day ever feeling overly formal or overpacked.
The Elms brought beauty and a strong sense of place. Carriage House added comfort, warmth, and another chance to gather around the table, where guests were once again treated to a delicious meal by the Stoneacre team. Together, they helped create a day that felt both distinctly Newport and wonderfully paced.
How Did Thames Glass Add a Creative Layer to the Weekend?
One of the things that made this weekend feel so layered was the option to include something hands-on and creative, and Thames Glass was such a perfect fit for that. Creative experiences often become some of the most memorable parts of a trip because they ask people to participate rather than simply observe.

At Thames Glass, guests had the chance to make something, laugh together, and enjoy a part of Newport that felt artistic and personal. It shifted the rhythm of the weekend in the best way. After dining, wellness, and sightseeing, this added a different kind of energy—playful, tactile, and deeply memorable. Our talented, warm, and friendly glassblowing instructor, Matt, made the experience feel especially welcoming, and the great music playlist playing while everyone created added even more to the fun, relaxed atmosphere.
It also aligned so well with the Hidden Gems concept. Local businesses like Thames Glass are exactly the kinds of places that make a destination feel distinctive. They offer something that cannot be replicated just anywhere. They give people a fuller sense of place, and in this case, they also gave guests a keepsake and a story to take home with them.
Moments like this matter because they stay vivid. Long after a trip ends, people remember how something felt when they were making it, laughing through it, and sharing it with others. Thames Glass gave the weekend one of those moments.

What Made the Hidden Gem Dinner Reveal So Fun?
One of the most playful details of the weekend came through the Hidden Gem Dinner experience on Saturday night. Each guest received an envelope of puzzle pieces in their welcome bag, and together they had to solve the puzzle to reveal that evening’s hidden gem.

That reveal led us to La Vecina Taqueria, a little Mexican hidden gem and a true Newport local favorite. It was such a fun way to build anticipation and turn dinner into more than just another reservation on the itinerary. It made the evening feel interactive, thoughtful, and very much in line with the spirit of the weekend.
And once we arrived, La Vecina absolutely lived up to it. Their nachos are, quite simply, the best I have ever had, and the churros were just as outstanding. Beyond the food, their service was incredible, which made the whole experience even better. It felt warm, lively, and full of personality—the kind of place you are so happy to know about and even happier to share.
That dinner was such a good reminder of what Hidden Gems Escapes are really about. Yes, it is about beautiful places and thoughtful planning, but it is also about those local favorites that make a destination feel more personal, memorable, and delicious.
How Did Sharon’s Yoga Flows Shape the Weekend?
Sharon’s yoga flows brought such a grounding and beautiful element to the weekend. They gave guests intentional moments to pause, breathe, stretch, and reconnect with themselves in the midst of everything else the escape held.
What made her presence so special was not only the yoga itself, but the energy she brought to the experience. Her flows felt welcoming, calming, and supportive of the slower pace we wanted this weekend to hold. They added another layer of care to the itinerary and helped reinforce that this escape was meant to feel restorative, not rushed.
Those sessions fit so naturally into the rhythm of the weekend. They created space for guests to settle into their bodies, ease their minds, and enjoy a softer start or reset within the flow of the days. Sharon’s presence truly added so much warmth and intention, and her yoga flows were an important part of what made the weekend feel so thoughtful and well-rounded.
Why Was Bodhi Spa the Perfect Finale?
Bodhi Spa felt like the perfect finale to the weekend. After beautiful meals, meaningful conversation, local favorites, creative experiences, and grounding yoga flows, ending with time to slow down and reset brought everything full circle in such a thoughtful way.

That mattered, because this weekend was not meant to be nonstop. It was designed to offer the kind of pace that people often say they want but rarely allow themselves. Bodhi supported that beautifully. It created space for stillness in a way that felt intentional and genuinely restorative.
There is something powerful about including wellness in a trip without making it feel forced or overly formal. At Bodhi, the experience felt aligned with the entire spirit of the weekend. It was not there for appearances. It was there because slowing down, breathing more deeply, and giving yourself time to simply be is valuable. In many ways, that is part of what Hidden Gems Escapes are all about.
As a finale, it was especially meaningful. It allowed guests to end the weekend not in a rush, but in a calmer, softer state—one that reflected exactly what this escape was meant to offer from the very beginning. For many, it became one of the most memorable parts of the weekend not because it was loud or flashy, but because it offered something many people need more of: peace, quiet, and the feeling of being cared for in a meaningful way.
What Other Hidden Gems Did We Find Along the Way?
One of my favorite things about a weekend like this is that sometimes the hidden gems are not only the ones planned in advance. Thanks to one of our awesome guests, we also found another Newport favorite during the weekend: Co-Dough’s sourdough cinnamon buns.
These delicious buns are the kind of find that makes a trip even more fun—the sort of local treat you tell people they absolutely should not miss. You can find them inside Market on Broadway, until they sell out. They were such a fun and unexpected addition to the weekend and exactly the kind of local tip that makes a place feel even more special.
Moments like that are part of what gave this escape its personality. It was not only about the planned itinerary, but also about the shared recommendations, the surprise favorites, and the little discoveries that happen when the pace leaves room for them.
What Did This First Escape Teach Me?
What made the Newport Hidden Gems Escape feel special was not just one place or one meal or one activity. It was the way everything worked together. The weekend held beauty, rest, fun, creativity, and connection in a way that felt natural rather than forced.
There was room for guests to enjoy the structure of the itinerary while still having breathing room. There was time to walk, to shop, to talk, to pause, and to enjoy Newport without feeling rushed through it. That kind of pacing changes everything. It allows people to take in more, not by doing more, but by actually having the time to appreciate what is in front of them.
It also helped that the group brought such lovely energy to the weekend. Shared meals became easier conversations. Planned moments felt more meaningful because people were genuinely present for them. The atmosphere throughout the escape felt warm and grounded, and that is something no itinerary can manufacture on its own. It happens when the right people come together in the right setting, with enough space for the weekend to unfold naturally.
One thing this first escape reinforced for me is that timing matters. Even beautiful experiences sometimes flow better on different days or at a different pace, and that is part of travel too—it is always a learning experience. I am so excited to take what I learned from this successful first escape and apply it to the next one.
Why Does Newport Work So Well for a Hidden Gems Escape?
Newport works beautifully for this kind of weekend because it offers so much variety without feeling chaotic. You can have waterfront scenery, strong dining, history, shopping, wellness, and creative local businesses all within a setting that still feels manageable and charming.

That combination makes it especially well-suited for a small-group escape. Guests can enjoy a lot without the weekend ever feeling too scattered. The destination supports a pace that feels both full and relaxed, and that is not always easy to find.
Newport also has a strong sense of identity. It feels coastal, classic, lively, and beautiful all at once. For a Hidden Gems Escape, that matters. It gives the weekend a clear atmosphere and helps each element of the itinerary feel connected to the place itself.
This first Newport edition was such a meaningful beginning for the series. It was a reminder that when you pair a beautiful destination with thoughtful planning, wonderful local partners, and a group of openhearted guests, something really special can come together.
The best weekends are not always the busiest ones. Sometimes the ones that stay with us most are the ones that give us beauty, connection, and the space to slow down enough to actually feel them.
